It’s a hot contest for the title of ‘The Jewel of Gran Canaria’, but it’s easy to see why Puerto de Mogán belongs in the conversation. This harbour town is a treat for the eyes, with white-washed houses trimmed in vibrant colours, bright bougainvillea pouring from patio pots and canals criss-crossing the streets to give its nickname, ‘Little Venice’. While it’s easy to lose yourself in its labyrinth of pretty lanes and side streets, it’s Puerto de Mogán’s marina that takes centre stage. Take a wander along the harbour and you’ll find a flurry of stylish waterfront restaurants and cafes serving up fresh seafood and local Canarian flavours. Watching the fishing boats and yachts bob in the marina, with the Atlantic stretching out into the horizon, are the cherries on top of any meal here. If you’re visiting on a Friday, make sure you head to the weekly market to get your hands on local crafts, nibbles and souvenirs – artisan ceramics and jewellery are particularly popular picks.
