Experience all the Northern highlights with transportation from Amsterdam! See the windmills of Zaanse schans, the world famous Afsluitdijk, a historic Frisian town and the medieval Muiderslot castle.
Your first stop will be in Zaanse Schans, one of the top-sights of the country. Water, windmills, wooden houses, this is where the past comes alive! Explore the area on your own walking, cycling or from the water. You can also visit the (inside of) the windmills and museums. Or just laze around and enjoy the wonderful view.
Continue to the Afsluitdijk (enclosing dyke). This world famous water barrier is the most impressive example of Dutch water management. The construction of the 32 kilometers long dyke started a hundred years ago. It connects the provinces of Noord Holland and Friesland. You will stop at the watchtower for a splendid view upon the construction with the ‘wadden sea’ at one side and the ‘IJsselmeer lake’ on the other.
Next, travel to Sneek, one of the legendary 'eleven cities' of the province of Friesland. This atmospheric old town offers beautiful canals, buildings and its highlight the Watergate. This 17th-century gate was part of a larger defense system and has become the emblem of Sneek.
Last but not least, visit the majestic medieval Muiderslot castle. It’s one of the oldest and best-preserved castles of the country, with a long and turbulent history. It’s surrounded by water and beautiful historic gardens. Wander around the grounds at your leisure and learn how the enemy has been opposed here.
