Start the tour after you have been picked up from your hotel in Bangalore by visiting the Palace of the Maharaja built in 1911-12. The palace is a harmonious synthesis of the Hindu and Saracenic styles of architecture with archways, domes, turrets, colonnades, and sculptures which are magnificent.
Then move on to visit the Art Gallery, drive up to Chamundi Hill to see Chamundeshwari Temple, and enjoy a panoramic view of Mysore from the top of the hill. On the way back, admire the Nandi Bull and Srirangapatna - a historic island town cradled by two branches of the Cauvery River.
You will then move on to the magnificent Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple inside the port, which is an ancient temple of exquisite beauty dating back to the 15th century. From 1610 to 1799 A.D., it was the capital of several Mysore kings like Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan. Also inside the fortress wall, there is a mosque that is worth visiting.
