The ultimate Islay tour is perfect for those who want to explore as much of Islay as possible. You'll visit every distillery on the island, taste a range of incredible drams and discover some incredible secret spots.
On your first day, you'll begin your journey north from Edinburgh making a couple of stops along the way to take in the stunning landscape and learn about the history and culture of this incredible part of Scotland. Your first distillery of the trip will be in Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland, where you'll enjoy a tour and tasting. Then, after a little more exploring, you'll make your way to Kennacraig to catch the evening ferry to Islay. As you cross, you'll see the beautiful surrounding islands before heading to your hotel in Islay to settle in and indulge in a glass of Scotland's favourite tipple.
With three full days to explore and plenty of sights to see, you'll have a tough time deciding what to see first. Your guide will be on hand to recommend some of their favourite spots including empty beaches, whitewashed villages, ancient sites, the Kildalton Cross, local wildlife, and medieval strongholds. With around 3000 people and 9 distilleries, the chances of finding a ‘wee dram’ are pretty good especially as you visit the distilleries that this island is famous for. You'll visit Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Kilchoman, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Ardnahoe, Bowmore and Bruichladdich!
On your final day, you'll catch the ferry back to the mainland and head down to the loch-side town of Inveraray where you can stroll around and pick up some extra whisky. Then, it's time to start the journey home. You'll travel down the shores of Loch Fyne and Loch Long before climbing up to the Rest and Be Thankful pass for sweeping views. Then, it's on to the stores of Loch Lomond where you can stretch your legs and admire the spectacular views.
