Explore the historic center of Florence with a private guide. Discover “the cradle of the Renaissance”, a unique city that maintains unchanged the charm and splendor of its past.
You will meet your guide in Santa Maria Novella Square and head to the monumental complex of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Piazza Duomo, crowned by the magnificent Brunelleschi’s Dome, the Baptistery of San Giovanni - a magnificent example of Florentine Romanesque style, and Giotto’s Bell Tower.
You will then enter the heart of medieval Florence with its labyrinth of poorly-lit lanes lined by centuries-old towers made in Florentine stone. See Piazza della Repubblica, where the most exclusive cafes are located, and Orsanmichele, one of the oldest churches in Florence, famous for the 14 tabernacles decorated between 1400 and 1500, each containing a statue representing the patron saint of the main Florentine guilds.
Passing by the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo and the renowned "Porcellino", you will reach Ponte Vecchio and its exclusive jeweler's shops. Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge that was left untouched by the bombing during the Second World War. Enjoy a pleasant walk along the Arno river to the Uffizi, one of the most famous museums in the world, and to Piazza della Signoria.
A copy of Michelangelo’s David dominates the square in front of Palazzo Vecchio, while the Loggia dei Lanzi displays a real open-air sculpture museum with masterpieces such as Benvenuto Cellini’s Perseus. The tour ends in Piazza Santa Croce by the namesake church, one of the biggest Franciscan churches in the world. Frescoed by Giotto, the Basilica of Santa Croce houses the remains of the greatest Italians from Michelangelo to Galileo, Machiavelli and Rossini.
