Your day trip to wine region of Kakheti starts at 10:00 am.
You will be visiting the Shuamta monasteries on the way. The old Shuamta Monastery is located in a hollow between forest-covered mountains. The three nave basilica dates back to the 5th century, and two other cross-domed churches date back to the 7th century.
After this first visit, you will proceed to the new Shuamta Monastery, of the mid 16th century, and you will discover the legend about its construction by a princess.
You will then continue your drive towards Alaverdi monastery, a monastery with a 55m high tower built in the 11th century by Kvirike III, but some parts of the structure are from the 6th century.
After Alaverdi you will visit Nekresi, one of the biggest monastery complexes in the region of Kakheti, built by king Thrdat. In 6th century the church of this monastery served as a refuge for Abibos, one of the Assyrian fathers, who was sentenced to death after pouring water on Zoroaster's fire.
Your final destination will be Sighnaghi, a city endowed with significant historic and cultural heritage sites. Its charming cobblestone streets and alleys, restored original nouveau woodwork, and detailed facades give the town a romantic mystique.The town sits atop a bluff overlooking the Alazani Valley, which is one of Georgia’s most famous wine-producing regions. The stunning view on the Alazani Valley make Sighnaghi one of Georgia’s most attractive small towns.
In the evening you will return back to Tbilisi, you will be dropped back to your accommodation or at any other place of your preference.
