From 24 August until 21 September the Mauritshuis will be closed due to major maintenance works. During this period The Girl with the pearl Earring will travel to Japan. She will not be on view from 15 August until 5 October.
The Mauritshuis is home to the best Dutch paintings of the 17th century from the age of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Situated in the heart of The Hague, the compact and world-renowned collection includes masterpieces such as Vermeer's 'Girl with the Pearl Earring', 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp' by Rembrandt, The 'Goldfinch' by Fabritius and 'The Bull' by Potter. See more than 200 pieces by Dutch and Flemish masters on display in the intimate exhibition rooms with silk wall coverings, sparkling chandeliers, and monumental painted ceilings.

Leading Belgian photographer Stephan Vanfleteren let himself be inspired by the paintings in the Mauritshuis. This has resulted in sixteen works, fifteen of which are new, one for each room of the Mauritshuis. In Pentimenti – Stephan Vanfleteren Among the Masters, they hang, stand and lie among their centuries-old sources of inspiration.
