What to expect

Essaouira is a character-filled seaside city that's known as the ‘Jewel of the Atlantic'. It's famous for its Medina and European military architecture, and infamous for its pirate haven past. You'll explore its harbour, Medina and arts scene on this day tour from Marrakech, and have a free afternoon to soak up its bohemian atmosphere, fish auction and souks.

On arrival in Essaouira, follow your guide on tour of the city past the port, municipal market, jewellers' district and artisan center. Its mellow atmosphere, narrow winding streets, colorful shops, whitewashed houses and heavy old wooden doors make it a wonderful place to wander around. Free time for lunch then to check out the artisan shops and galleries. Last stop at argan oil cooperative where you can try some local products.

Swap city streets for palm-lined valleys, rose gardens and scented fruit trees as we head out into the wilderness. Photographers will love the widescreen mountain panoramas, and you'll have the chance to see local pottery being made in the traditional way, and buy some items if you like.We'll stop for a break to sip on a mint tea and try fresh local bread in a typical Berber house, before enjoying some free time to explore the village.
