California Caribbean In Alamo Square
The evening starts with tropical sounds, a sultry cocktail, followed by a menu seasoned by the “Spice Trail” cuisines of The Caribbean with a modern Californian twist. African, Spanish, Taíno, and Middle Eastern (Jewish & Arabic) flavors come together to make up traditional Dominican dishes. It ends with a creamy coconut-rum dessert and stories.
What to expect:
- 3- course dining experience featuring traditional Dominican dishes made with locally sourced, organic and seasonal ingredients
- Craft cocktail upon arrival and Emillio's renown "coquito" for dessert
- Eclectic San Franciscan apartment located next to Alamo Square, home to the Painted Ladies monument
- Can cater to vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and gluten-free options upon request
About your host Emillio:
"It is no coincidence that my last name, Mesa, translates to “table.” I was born to be a host. I am hospitality professional with 15+ years in hotel openings, catering management, and special events.
Why are sit-down dinners and cooking classes so powerful? The underlying main ingredient is the community aspect. It allows people to meet and “break bread” with different nationalities, races, genders, and socioeconomic backgrounds. "
* Menus can be customized for your dinner-event. Please ask how you can upgrade the experience for your special night.

A blend of passion fruit, mango, and apricot juices, mixed with vodka with a drizzle of rose-hibiscus syrup.
Appetizer
Hand-Crimped Fresh Empanadas
Filled with ground turkey, lentils, tomatoes and mixed-olives.
All homemade. Lightly fried in vegetable oil. Served with homemade salsa verde.
Main (Served Family-Buffet Style)
Slow Roasted Chicken & Shrimp in Red Wine Sofrito Sauce
Oven roasted chicken and shrimp served with homemade sauce: mixed tomatoes, chickpeas, onions, garlic, cilantro, olive oil and red wine
Spanish Yellow Rice
A classic cooked with turmeric, saffron, onions, garlic, and chicken broth with a hint of lemon.
The San Francisco Salad
Thanks to the Farmer’s Market, it celebrates the city’s vibrant flavors. It’s always different, because I take advantage of seasonal ingredients at the peak of their freshness
Dessert
The "Coquito." If you like coconut, you’ll love this! It's a thick and creamy (like melted ice-cream) drink that mixes coconut milk with sweet cream of coconut, almond milk, cinnamon and rum. This rich, authentic recipe is a tradition during Christmas in the Caribbean. Served over ice, with a large cinnamon stick.
