The inside story
Grote of Sint-Jacobskerk or The Great Church (St. James' Church) is a landmark protestant church and one of the oldest buildings in The Hage, Netherlands. The most popular feature of the church is its tower, with its 288 steps to climb on it offers a spectacular 360° view over the city center.
The history of this church begins in the 13th century. A wooden church is reputed to have stood on the same spot Around 1420, the hexagonal tower was built and by the end of the 15th century, the elegant church had reached its present size. The building is also used for all kinds of events including exhibitions, fairs, concerts, cultural events, and tourism.
