Enjoy a fantastic full-day trip to the Floriade Expo and Zaanse Schans windmill village! See everything that is typical Dutch in one day: flowers, cheese, windmills, and wooden shoes.
Meet your guide/driver at the central meeting point in Amsterdam. A comfortable, air-conditioned minivan will take you to today´s first destination (40-minute drive), the Floriade Expo. A unique opportunity to visit while the exhibition is organized only once every ten years in the Netherlands. The main theme of this year is: "A celebration of green" divided into 4 sub-categories: greening the city, feeding the city, healthying the city and energizing the city. You will get perfect ideas of how cities can be made green. You will have the possibility to gain knowledge about cultivating food in the city, get tips and tricks for a healthy lifestyle in the residence where you are living and you will be given some ideas for sustainable energy solutions. Of course, there will be also plenty of opportunities to grab a nice drink or consume a typically local and healthy dish.
After having spent about 4 hours of free time at the Expo, you will continue to the windmill village Zaanse Schans. This outdoor conservation area is situated on the banks of the Zaan River and is home to traditional 18th and 19th-century architecture, including several functioning windmills. Watch live demonstrations of craftsmen at work, including a clog maker crafting the famous wooden shoes of the Netherlands. There will be some free time to explore the village on your own, before traveling through the distinctive polders (land reclaimed from the water) of the Beemster area. Next is the opportunity to see how the world-famous Dutch cheese is made and, of course, to taste it on a close-by cheese farm.
Finally, you will return to the city and can look back on a day full of typical Dutch highlights!
