The inside story
If there’s one event that deserves a place in your diary this year, it’s this. The biggest ever Vermeer show is on its way to Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum and it's sure to go down in history. From 10th February until 4th June 2023, the prestigious museum will hold an exclusive exhibition, with a whopping 28 of Johannes Vermeer’s rarely-lent-out paintings travelling to the Dutch capital from all over the world.
While you can get a glimpse of Vermeer’s works at The Hague’s Mauritshuis, and reproductions of his paintings in his hometown at the Royal Delft, this temporary exhibit is the perfect place to see most of his creations under one roof. What’s more, you’ll learn first-hand about his style and techniques, including how he used unusual lighting to create convincing illusionism. The not-to-be-missed exhibition will include masterpieces such as The Geographer, Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid, Woman Holding a Balance and Mauritshuis’ much-loved The Girl with a Pearl Earring.
