San Gimignano was located right along the ancient pilgrim route Via Francigena. In the Middle Ages, its position between Pisa and Siena was strategic for saffron production and trade, which contributed to the city's great economic development.
Admire this perfectly preserved medieval town and the surrounding hills covered by Vernaccia vineyards.
