Enjoy a walking tour of Rome, from the Tiber river bank up to Aventino hill!
Aventino one of the seven hills on which Rome was founded back in the 8th century b.C., the southernmost and hardest to reach; for this reason, during medieval times monks and knights built monasteries and sanctuaries here. Reach the top of the hill through a panoramic path overlooking the Tevere and the city and then head on to discover more of this awesome historic place in Rome. At the end of the walk, relax with typical Roman food and a glass of wine.
Meet your guide just at the foot of Aventino hill, from where you'll walk through a recently restyled path that climbs up to the top of the hill. No worries, it is a really soft climbing and a very pleasant walk. Once at the top of the Aventine Hill, the first stop will be at the Giardino degli Aranci (Gardens of oranges). Enter the garden, that offers a beautiful panorama over Rome, and get a spectacular view of St. Peter's Basilica. Pass along the first of the medieval Basilicas that stands on the Aventino, SS. Alessio e Bonifacio that dates back in the 4th century b.C. Stop to admire the magnificent sculptures and mosaics and the medieval cloister.
Proceed entering the Malta Knights square where the Templar Knights used to have their headquarters overlooking the Tiber. From the lock of one of the square's arcades, it is possible to see the dome of St. Peter framed by green foliage. If there is not too much queue you will be able to admire this absolutely unique visual effect.
The next stop of our stroll will be at the Basilica of Santa Sabina, it's very high aisles and the splendid apse with its fresco are certainly worth a visit. We then descend from the Aventino towards Circus Maximums located between the Aventine and Palatine hills: a venue for games since the foundation of the city.
Now, its time to enjoy a nice break with some food taste and a typical Italian aperitivo. The tour finish at the feet of Palatine hill.
