The inside story
Charlottenburg Palace, in the heart of Berlin, is one of the major tourist attractions of the German capital. It is a Baroque and Rococo masterpiece with lavish interior decoration.
The original palace was built at the end of the 17th century by the artistic and witty Queen Sophia Charlotte of Hanover and expanded in the 18th century. Up until 1888, the palace served as the residence of Prussian kings and German emperors in Berlin. It was severely damaged during World War II but was restored and furnished.
