Discover the distinctive mangrove eco-system of Khao Garos in the north of Krabi on a spectacular kayak trip. Paddle through a maze of narrow canyons to the hidden lagoon of Ao Thueak surrounded by steep limestone cliffs and visit the stunning Bat Cave. In the afternoon you will discover the local community of Nai Nang village and learn about the bee keeping collective which produces honey and more products to restore the mangrove forest.
Start by paddling into the bay of Khao Garos with your local guide. Enter a maze of mangroves surrounded by natural waterways that are connected to the Andaman Sea. Admire the bizarrely shaped karst formations that protrude from the mangrove forests, enter small passages and follow the course of the river until you reach the secret lagoon of Ao Thueak where you can take a refreshing dip in calm water. You´ll also visit the natural attraction known as ‘Bat Cave’, a sea cave that was formed by tectonic and erosional processes. Next, return to the pier and enjoy a typical Thai-style lunch in Baan Rai Nai Suan. Then it´s time to explore the local community of Nai Nang village which includes over 45 families who depend primarily on traditional small-scale fishing and farming for their livelihoods. Visit the bee keeping collective and learn about mangrove forest conservatio. The village now has more than 300 beehives and produces over 400 kilos of raw, unpasteurized honey every year. Next, visit a typical goat farm. The majority Muslim villagers raise about three to five goats per family as a source of additional income. In the surroundings, you will notice many rubber tree plantations where the locals harvest latex by slicing a groove into the bark of the tree with a hooked knife.
