Płaszów, que al principio era un campo de trabajos forzados, se convirtió en un campo de concentración tras la liquidación del gueto de Cracovia. En Płaszów, se llevaron a cabo ejecuciones masivas y los prisioneros fueron obligados a trabajar en condiciones inhumanas. Poco después de la guerra, este campo cayó en el olvido y las autoridades comunistas no le atribuyeron especial importancia por lo que permitieron que se construyesen zonas residenciales en algunas partes del territorio del campo. Sin embargo, todavía es posible ver la Casa Gris, antigua residencia de los hombres de las SS y lugar de tortura, así como la villa de Amon Goeth, comandante del campo. Aquí se rodaron numerosas escenas de la película La lista de Schindler, de Steven Spielberg.
