The inside story
The Central Market of Valencia is a public market located opposite the Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange) and the church of Santos Juanes, in the centre of the city. Inaugurated in 1928, it is one of the main works of Valencian modernism. The architects in charge of the project were Alejandro Soler March and Francisco Guardia Vial, and later Enrique Viedma and Ángel Romaní.
The building, which occupies a surface area of more than 8000 m2, stands out for its enormous metal structure, the domes, the stained-glass windows and the precious ceramic coverings. As if it were a real "cathedral of the senses", the explosion of colours, flavours and smells in this unique enclave attracts Valencians as well as national and international visitors.
