During this guided tour you will discover with a must-see place of Lyon's heritage. Behind its monumental facade, nearly 350 metres long on the Rhône, the Grand Hôtel Dieu de Lyon tells 800 years of social history. You will discover the social challenges through the different periods, at the corner of the 21 wings and 9 courtyards of this exceptional monument. From the place of hospitality for the destitute to the luxury hotel Intercontinental and the place of care where remarkable medical progress has been made in the contemporary era, particularly in the field of surgery.
This visit will be as a stroll through the various inner courtyards allows us to embrace the long history of a Lyon institution that has become Hospices Civils de Lyon. As the owner of the site, it chose to move the medical services in 2009 and convert the site, thereby committing itself to the largest private restoration project in Europe. This visit ends in the heart of the Hôtel Dieu chapel, a masterpiece of Baroque art.
