The inside story

In one of Europe’s most northern countries, Norway, you’ll find a remarkable natural attraction that routinely gives people the feeling of being at the top of the world both literally and metaphorically: Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock.

Preikestolen, commonly referred to as Pulpit Rock in English, is a notably steep cliff that extends 604 metres above the scenic Lysefjord. It is located in the municipality of Strand approximately a 40-minute drive east of the Norwegian city of Stavanger. Pulpit Rock is one of Norway’s most visited tourist destinations, so it goes without saying that you must visit it if you get the chance.

To reach the top of Pulpit Rock, you’ll have to hike for about 4-5 hours. The journey up is moderately difficult and you should expect to encounter some relatively demanding sections along the way. Once at the summit, you’ll be greeted by a 25x25 metre flat top overlooking jaw-dropping views of Norway’s fjords and mountains.
