The inside story
Standing guard at the northern edge of Valencia’s old town, Torres de Serranos is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Built in the late 14th century as part of Valencia’s medieval defensive walls, these imposing Gothic towers once protected one of the main entrances to the city. Today, they remain among the best-preserved city gates in Spain, offering a striking reminder of Valencia’s historic past.
As you explore, you can climb to the top of the towers for sweeping views over the old town, the Turia Gardens and the rooftops beyond. Along the way, you will discover architectural details that reveal the importance of the gate during Valencia’s golden age. During the Spanish Civil War, the towers were used to safeguard artworks from Madrid’s Prado Museum, helping protect some of Spain’s most valuable cultural treasures.
